In this Question Line video, Jason answers the following question regarding tolerances with draft:
I am trying to figure out the +DFT on our dims. I know that +DFT means that the dim gets bigger towards the other end. What I don’t know is what I use for tolerances.
In this video, Jason introduces ASME Y14.8, the castings, forgings, and molded parts standard. He discusses that + or – DRAFT is a tool given by this standard that can be added to a size dimension to identify the draft allowed for easier removal of a casting from a mold. He then walks through two examples given in the standard and explains how to handle (and where to find) the tolerances for the draft features.
