Meet Jake

Jake DeVore is a GD&T Instructor at GD&T Basics with a strong background in machining, inspection, and metrology. This range of experience has given him a practical understanding of how GD&T is used (and sometimes misunderstood) across manufacturing teams.

Jake loves talking about GD&T and helping others understand it. Before joining GD&T Basics, he often helped coworkers across engineering, manufacturing, and inspection make sense of GD&T. One of his favorite parts of teaching is seeing that moment when a concept finally clicks and knowing he helped close the gap.

Outside of work, Jake is passionate about men’s ministries in his church and community, music, and home gardening.

Skills & Certifications

Jake holds a GDTP- Senior level certification from ASME and brings hands-on experience from both production and inspection environments, allowing him to teach GD&T with real-world context. He also holds Zeiss Calypso Advanced and Hexagon PC-DMIS Turnkey + Scanning CMM programming certifications.

Work Experience

Jake’s career spans industries from construction to medical manufacturing. Beginning as a machinist at Caterpillar, he has worked as a CNC operator, CNC and manual machinist, inspector, CMM programmer, and Quality Engineer. He also has experience in software development and technical writing. This diverse background has shaped his appreciation for clear GD&T interpretation and strengthened his ability to explain technical concepts to a wide range of audiences.

Jake’s goal as a GD&T instructor is simple: student success. He encourages questions and approaches complex topics one step at a time, starting with clear definitions and building from there. By making sure everyone is speaking the same language, Jake helps learners gain the clarity and confidence they need to apply GD&T effectively.
