In this Question Line video, Jason answers the following question regarding continuous features and pattern features:
We work with different inspection services. One service would report a profile of surface “A” two bosses separated by a gap as one “continuous feature” and report one line in the report. Another service would report 2 lines for each boss. Which one is correct? Our drawing calls out ASME Y14.5 – 2009. One service wants us to change 2X to CF. Do we need to update to ASME Y14.5 – 2018 to make this change?

In this video, Jason walks through two examples, shown above, which have the same interpretation. The first uses the Continuous Feature symbol, introduced in ASME Y14.5 – 2009, and the other creates a simultaneous requirement for a pattern of features. He explains why each of these examples would result in one reported value, referencing ASME Y14.45 for the inspection of the simultaneous requirement example. Jason also compares the information for the Continuous Feature symbol found within the ASME Y14.5 2009 and 2018 versions.
